GMAT or Graduate Management Admission Test

Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is one of the most popular of admission tests for studying abroad. The examination is conducted by Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) and even accepted by universities within India. One of the top management colleges in the country – Indian School of Business or ISB requires GMAT score for admissions.

Similar to CAT or Common Admission Test conducted by Indian Institutes of Management in the country, GMAT is a requirement for most of the management schools abroad. ECS IELTS Mostly mandatory for all management schools in USA and Canada, the score is also sought by universities in other popular study abroad destinations like Singapore, Hong Kong, France, Germany, Australia, UK and so on. Please note, GMAT is only for admission to masters in management programs and is not usually accepted for masters in science or other postgraduate programs. For those, GRE is the more accepted of the examinations.

GRE or Graduate Record Examination

Graduate Record Examination, GRE is easily the most widely accepted aptitude test for post-graduate admissions around the world. Administered by Educational Testing Service or ETS, the examination is applicable for admissions in USA, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Singapore, and Australia and so on.

The GRE is on the similar lines of SAT and has a General and GRE Subject Tests. Based on the specialization a person wishes to apply for, the GRE tests would be asked for. Usually, however, GRE are required for master’s program, especially masters in science programs. GRE Subject is more of an on demand score and not a pre-requisite.

All these examinations are conducted multiple times in a year by their respective administrators. Also, these examinations usually have a validity period. For instance, an IELTS score is valid for 2 years while a GMAT score is valid for 5 years. This means that a student who appeared for GMAT in 2018 can apply for admissions to universities based on the score till 2023.
